Anett Kontaveit celebrated her retirement with a magnificent gala in the company of family and friends following her decision to end her career at a fully booked exhibition against Ons Jabeur in Tallinn.
The Estonian player, who was forced to retire from professional tennis following Wimbledon this summer due to a persistent back injury, invited Jabeur to the Tondiraba Ice Hall two weeks ago for a single farewell match. As the day gave way to night, the two exchanged their tennis attire for elegant black formal wear to appropriately celebrate Kontaveit’s career at an afterparty.
Attendees at the celebration included Kontaveit’s close friend, Estonian TV host Kelli Sükijainen; Jabeur and her spouse, Karim Kamoun; and Brent Lepistu, an Estonian soccer player, who has been Kontaveit’s boyfriend for just over a year.
Kontaveit wrote on Instagram alongside photos: “It was truly a moment for life.”
